Therapy is a wonderful tool for treating and managing the causation and symptoms associated with anxiety. Much of what we read on the internet and social media is disseminated as physical and emotional symptoms caused by worry, stress, and various environmental concerns. Anxiety may impact many areas of one's life including the following: daily functionality, relationships, cognition, physical wellness, logic, tasks, sleep, appetite, immunity, motivation, concentration, and behavior. This is not an exhaustive list and highlights the broad range of effects linked to anxiety.
What can anxiety feel like? The psychological, emotional, and somatic symptoms can also be wide-ranging depending on the body's response to stress. These symptoms include irritability, anger, fidgetiness, racing thoughts, heart palpitations, brain fog, fatigue, tension, nervousness, chest tightness, and possible sensations of not being able to breathe or catch one's breath. All of these can feel uncomfortable and lend to a person's unease, however, they are not usually harmful at that moment.
Treatment options include psychotherapy, medication, and holistic interventions. Learned skills that can facilitate the reduction of anxiety symptoms may include self-care, mindfulness, relaxation techniques, coping practices, grounding strategies, vagal nerve stimulation, and breathing exercises.
